SBI PO Exam 2025 Selection Process

SBI PO Exam 2025 is one of the most prestigious and competitive public-sector bank exams in India. Compared to other bank exams like those conducted by IBPS, the SBI PO exam is known to be slightly more challenging in terms of difficulty and selection process.

The recruitment process for SBI Probationary Officers (PO) involves three key stages:

  1. Preliminary Examination – A qualifying test to shortlist candidates for the next stage.

  2. Main Examination – A comprehensive assessment of reasoning, quantitative aptitude, general awareness, and English.

  3. Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview – The final stage to evaluate communication skills, leadership qualities, and overall personality.

Clearing all three stages successfully is essential to secure a position as a Probationary Officer at SBI.

SBI PO 2025 Exam Pattern

SBI PO Prelims is an online objective test designed to screen candidates for the next stage. The exam is 1 hour long and carries a total of 100 marks.

Key highlights:

  • Negative marking: 0.25 marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.

  • The paper is divided into three sections:

    • English Language

    • Quantitative Aptitude

    • Reasoning Ability

  • No sectional cut-off: Unlike previous years, candidates are now evaluated based on their overall score, not individual section scores.

  • Objective Test – 3 hours

  • Descriptive Test – 30 minutes

Objective Test:

The objective paper includes four sections:

Negative Marking:

For each incorrect answer in the Objective Test, 0.25 marks will be deducted. However, no marks will be deducted for unattempted questions.

Sectional Cut-Off:

Final Stage: Interview Process & Final Selection for SBI PO 2025

Candidates who successfully clear both the Prelims and Mains exams will move on to the final phase — the Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) round.

During this stage, candidates will appear before a panel of selectors who will assess them based on their communication skills, past experiences, and awareness of current affairs and the banking sector. Clearing this round is essential for final selection.

The weightage of this round is as follows:

  • Group Discussion – 20 marks
  • Personal Interview – 30 marks

Once the interview process is complete, the State Bank of India (SBI) will prepare a final merit list by combining the candidate’s performance in the Mains Exam and the GD/PI round. Based on this combined score and the number of available vacancies, the final cut-off will be released.

Candidates who meet or exceed the final cut-off will be issued an Appointment Letter for the post of Probationary Officer at SBI.
